Mechanical Doorbells
I have a penchant for cool old things. The other day I was visiting at her apartment in old town and the first thing I noticed at her door was an old fashioned doorbell. It was one of the ornate Victorian style mechanical doorbells that my grandmother told me stories about when I was growing up. Needless to say, I had my friend pretty peeved at me by the time she opened the door because once I started ringing that doorbell I didn’t stop. In fact I ringed it again when I was leaving. The ringing sound was cool all by itself, but the thing that put me over the top was the twisting action that was necessary to ring the bell.
