It’s not good for our pets or for us to be overweight, but it’s also not good to lose that excess weight too quickly. This can cause a particular problem in cats.
If cats stop eating or drastically reduce their food intake it can cause sudden weight loss. If they loose the weight too quickly it can cause an accumulation of fat in their liver leading to feline fatty liver disease. If this disease isn’t treated it can cause permanent liver damage or sometimes even liver failure.
If your kitty hasn’t eaten for two days you should take her to the vet right away to figure out why she isn’t eating; there may be underlying cat health problems at work here. Watch for other symptoms as well such as vomiting, dehydration, lethargy, diarrhea or constipation.
If you want kitty to lose weight it’s best to get advice from your vet about healthy weight loss, but if she is not feeling well and has stopped eating it’s important to take her in right away.
