Comparing natural and synthetic diamonds

The biggest difference between a diamond that is created in a laboratory (synthetic) and a diamond that has been mined is the way that the diamond is made, cut and polished. Hence, the assumption that a quality diamond is a quality diamond. The other materials that are used with a particular piece demonstrate the quality of the diamond that is used. 14c gold is used with the better (high quality graded) diamond than a diamond that also has silver or iron on the same setting. A created diamond that has a yellowish cast might be better used in a yellow gold setting, as the color will not contrast with the ring material so much.

The process of diamond synthesis can be different for different companies. One company creates diamonds from cremated human remains. Another uses graphite. Yet another uses lamp black. Materials are as varied as is the individual diamond.
