Driving trips for many have been a favorite pastime for as far back as they can remember. The road trips of their youth to the family vacations and sightseeing. Conversion vans bring back this memory by allowing you not only to travel in style, but comfort as well.

Conversion vans not only allow for a number of people to travel very easily, but in more comfort than the family sedan could ever offer. With the added room in the interior of a van, the chairs can be designed a bit larger than standard cars and there is much more available leg room. This can be a great advantage to the taller members of the group and those that may simply like to stretch out.

Many conversion vans come equipped with a built in cooler for drinks and snacks on those long trips. With the option of an LCD TV that folds down out of the roof, no one will get bored either. This is especially handy when there are children on these trips.

Many of the TVs offered have a built in DVD player, so movie time is all the time when on the road. The ability to hook in a video gaming system is also offered with some of the models. Between these two options, the trip will seem to fly right by for the younger passengers.

By looking online at the many different websites of suppliers and manufacturers of these types of vans, you will have a better idea of what options may suit your needs the best. Many of the websites allow you to customize the options for your vehicle right there and receive a price quote instantly. By shopping around at different websites, each of the accessories that may be desired will likely be found without much effort.

Wine goblets have been around for thousands of years. Of course at the beginning of their existence they started out at being very crude things. They were created out of a banged up pieces of metal formed into a poorly crafted goblet. As time went on they became more and more refined. Surprisingly, silver and gold goblets were not seen as being as valuable as glass goblet’s. This is most likely because glass may have been more difficult to be refined during early times. Crystal glasses were very popular during the 18th century and were created by the French. Today these types of glasses are much more valued than glass. They are a treat to drink out of and are usually only used for special events.

The steady march of technological advancement waltzes through the compound bow industry at a frenetic pace. There are many aspects to the performance of a bow that can be improved with a change in material, something lighter, more flexible, able to keep the bow quieter or more powerful. Your start of the art Mathews Conquest Apex compound bow will rapidly be surpassed by new improved technology before you know it.

Compound bow limbs used to be made from laminated wood and the cheaper versions were made out of fibreglass. These days the high-performance bows are made with limbs of molded or laminated fibreglass. Added to this in some cases are layers of carbon giving the bows even greater performance. It allows the limbs to be built thin and light yet they are still capable of great strength.

Enjoy the bow you buy today but be aware that there will soon be another one coming along to make your shooting an even more enjoyable experience.

I took a trip over to Myrtle Beach State Park to see if I could spot any interesting birds in their maritime forest. There is not much of this type of habitat for miles around it. So it would seem it should attract a fair bit of species that do not take a liking to the concrete jungle you can find in the heart of Myrtle Beach.

The hiking trail leading to the park pond

The hiking trail leading to the park pond

I admittedly went during the day and there was not much going on. The forest there is kind of a tangled mess too. There are though some nice hiking trails at Myrtle Beach State Park. I headed out and did a lot of stopping, searching and listening. The find of the day for me was seeing an Anhinga. Not so much that it is an unusual thing to see but the fact of where I saw it. There is a small pond that is at the end of one of the trails there. This was not much of a place for an Anhinga to be but yet there it was. I was able to stumble across it without making it take off, so I was able to get a nice long look at it through my binoculars.

I’m sure if I was to go on this same adventure during the early morning or at dusk I would see a lot more. So I need to revisit this Myrtle Beach park again sometime soon.

Moving house is said to be the third most stressful experience after bereavement and divorce, it certainly is a big step fraught with uncertainty and rarely taken lightly. Imagine then moving not only from your house but from the very country you live in. Every year thousands of us relocate to a foreign country looking for a change in lifestyle and for those hardy souls the leap is enormous.

We made the same giant leap three years ago and can attest that the whole experience was indeed very stressful. We have no regrets but we certainly have our battle scars and if I had to do it again I think I would take advantage of some assistance from a professional relocation firm. We moved to Perpignan, a small city in the South of France, and really we could have done with a professional to help us with much of the administration. Next time!

If you are planning your holidays in Spain anytime soon I would recommend three things that you must see.

The first one is happens everywhere, it seems at most times of the year, it is the fiestas and festivals that are celebrated with a passion in Spain’s cities, towns, villages, and resorts. The Spanish really love to party and if you get the chance to visit any of these, your time will not be wasted.

The second one is the tomato Festival in Valencia. This is built around people throwing squashed tomatoes at each other and having a damn good time with it.

The third, and obvious one, is the bull run of Pamplona. I would not recommend taking part in the actual bull run, but the atmosphere is electric.

I came up to the plate in the bottom of the 7th inning with two outs and a man on first and second.  We were down by two runs and this was our last at bat.  I was a little tipsy since everytime you reach first base you had a drink 8 oz. of beer and I had been on base already in the first, the fourth, and the fifth inning.  I can’t really hold my alchohol while playing softball.

Anyway, I had my helmet on and my friend Ronnie was pitching.  The way we play the game is that the team who is batting pitches.  That way you don’t get some jerk trying to pitch you a ball that you can’t hit even if you weren’t half drunk.  Normally I love it when Ronnie pitches, but today he had been on base just as much as I had and he wasn’t in normal form.

The first two pitches were way out of my wheel house and my Easton softball bat swing widly to try and make some contact but all I made contact with was air.  So I dug my green softball cleats into the batters box to await my last pitch.  It came on the outside edge of the plate and I swung with wall my might, connecting with the neon yellow ball and sending high and deep into right field.

I got on my motor right away and in a matter of seconds I was racing towars first looking for the ball.  Once I caught sight of it my fist when into the air as I saw that I had hit a home run.  I chugged my beer going around the bases and crushed it on my helmet on the way to home.  It was an exciting softball game.

One of the great pleasures of living in the Languedoc Roussilon is the abundance of great wines, at great prices, available all year round. This region in the South of France is famous for its wine production and over the last few years the reputation for quality as well as quantity has risen considerably. Whereas in the past the Languedoc had a reputation for bog standard table wine now days certain producers are starting to win awards and recognition.

One winery worthy of mention is Domaine Gayda based just outside the town of Limoux, which in turn is half an hour from the medieval city of Carcassonne. This vineyard is only a few years old bu is already going places thanks to its young winemaker Vincent who has been trained in new world wine making techniques. If you’re in the area give them a call and they will be delighted to take you on a free tour of the vineyard and winery.

I just wanted to tell everyone about a new coffee machine I just discovered from Philips. It’s called the Senseo coffee machine.  It uses a coffee pod instead of the usual filter.

The coffee pod is a bit like teabag, in that the coffee is inside the pod.

You can get these machines are on your local appliance store. I must say it makes one of the best cups of coffee I have ever had. And, it makes the coffee really quickly. You open up the top, put your pod into the receptacle, close the lid, press the button and within a minute you have a fresh mug of steaming frothy coffee.

I’m not sure how it works, but I presume it forces the water through the coffee pod.

As well as being the top retailer in the UK, argos now offer travel insurance and have also rolled out a new sport and leisure website. This expansion has really grown out of necessity because of the high demand for sport and leisure wear.

The argos travel insurance website aims to compete with the major insurance companies by drawing on the solid reputation that the argos name brings. The prices and quotes are often lower than the rest due to the aim of bringing in new clients. How long these discounted prices will last for is anyone’s guess, but the best time to use a service like this is right now. You will get the best cover at the lowest price.

The sports department at argos has expanded due to the vast amount of products in the catalogue, there was simply no more room to effectively show all these products. What is apparent is that the prices of all the sportswear and accessories is also very cheap right now. There are hundreds of discounted items ranging from football boots to rowing machines. These ranges will continue to grow until argos has dominated the market share because this is how they operate. They are the UK equivalent of Wal Mart, and the only harm they will be doing is to their suppliers, by forcing them to make things cheaper and cheaper. Big business is very competitive these days, yet the bubble shows no sign of bursting just yet.

Last year I was able to spend a nice time at an East Hampton Bed and Breakfast for a long weekend with my wife. It was great and I have a lot of fond memories from what was really just a few days of vacation. There was a lot to do, mainly because the Bed and Breakfast was so on top of things and offered us so many options.

I got to go biking in a park, which actually had a decent off road trail. There was also a lot of horse related stuff to do (which I take not part in!) but my wife did get to go for a nice ride. Of course she loved doing that. We also got in a nice round of golf too. The best part though was when we were just doing nothing.

Like most times away that are a lot of fun, our stay was not long enough. We did tell each other we would return this year. So now it is time for us to plan our next Hamptons vacation.

Bright Star by Grayson Reyes-ColeWhen you begin reading Bright Star, you may find some semblance to ‘X-Files’ or maybe ‘Heroes’. A small minority of individuals is born with the ability to bend the laws of physics with their high energy.  They’re called shifters. In order to make sure these paranormal abilities are channelized positively, an agency called The Service trains them from childhood.

Two brothers, Jacob and Jackson Rush are gifted with this high energy but Jacob wants a normal life and has hidden his abilities from everyone, including his brother. However, when he has to save a mysterious and self-destructive girl called Bright Star, Jacob’s life changes. Bright Star convinces Jacob that he is central to saving the world from disaster. In order to force him to demonstrate and hone his special skills she repeatedly places him in life threatening situations.  As such Jacob is eventually unable to hide the truth about her or himself from his brother.

This is an intriguing book with a unique storyline.  Initially Bright star’s ambiguity leaves the reader confused about the real nature of her character.  However as Bright Star’s personal mythology is revealed, some of the mystery surrounding her character begins to unfold.  Likewise the Rush brothers are interesting characters and the tension between them provides an excellent human element to the entire storyline.

As an author, Reyes-Cole is obsessed with the fantastic and language. She is intrigued by human relationships and how they work and probably that’s why her books have intense and engaging characters. But just as the characterizations are great the storyline of Bright Star is well-developed and interesting as well. The book combines fantasy and horror with a heady mix of psychological tension.  Grayson Reyes-Cole is a brilliantly imaginative author and if you like modern, dark fantasy you are bound to love this book. This is one of the better new fantasy books released this year.

  1. Carnivals and circuses used to travel the country, stopping in cities and towns for a few days and then moving on. Freak shows, rides, food and games of chance were the mainstays of their business. A relatively recent book “Water for Elephants” provides an interesting look into what that kind of life may have been like for people that worked these shows. One derivation of this traveling show was to put the same thing in place in a location where people go to vacation. Ocean beach destinations seemed to be just perfect for this.
Amusement Rides on Funtown Pier in Seaside Heights NJ

Amusement rides on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights NJ

Some seaside resort amusement areas are much like the original traveling shows. You can find such places at boardwalks along the coast in New Jersey. The commercial boardwalk in Seaside Heights, for example, is built on the model of a traveling carnival. There are rides, food stands and games of chance.  There are no freak shows, but one new twist with having a permanent location is the opportunity to build arcades.Video games, pinball, skeeball and other electronic amusements. Seaside Heights even has a bit of a feel of seediness, which was also something that traveling carnivals definitely carried around with them.

Other amusement parks built upon the same idea as the traveling shows but have put a huge distance between what they are and a old time carnival or some boardwalk type places. Disney has created something different in their theme parks, as has the Six Flags amusement parks. Family friendly, clean and very careful about the image they project as a wonderful place to spend some time with your family.

The one constant that ties all of these places together – they are all simply trying to get you to part with your cash for a thrill. That excitement may be for a few hours, a day, or in the case of Disney even for a week but you are paying to be thrilled, excited and in some ways have some sort of adrenalin rush.
